Rollickin’ Gelato

Location:

City Centre

Date:

2013 October

Young entrepreneur Jed Joyce opened mobile icecream cart Rollickin' Gelato in the spring of 2013. He now has two permanent retail shops and two food trucks.

The secret to Jed's gelato is fresh organic milk, no powdered milk there! The gelato is handcrafted in small batches with Aotearoa produce for super flavour and goodness. Rollickin' is always searching for New Zealand’s seasonal best, like the sweetest mandarins, tree-ripened organic feijoas, grandma’s lemon tree… "You can't buy happiness, but you can buy gelato and that's pretty much the same thing," says Jed.
Rollickin’ Gelato shared its first space with the Canterbury Horticultural Society’s (CHS) Alhambra Gardens. With the help of Landscape Architect Robert Watson, CHS designed and built a Spanish-themed garden to complement the architectural style of New Regent Street. The garden included a mix of exotic trees and plants, creating an oasis on a desolate inner city site. Visitors enjoy the space for people watching and gelato eating during the day, or as part of the Auricle’s wine garden for special events in the evening.
